Position: Freelance Finance Officer

Contract Work: 12 hours per week (Part Time) freelance contract  

Days of Work: 2 days per week (some weekend and evening work may be involved, as per project requirements)

Payment: £12.50 per hour

WheelWorks is a dynamic youth arts charity which has been Creating New Worlds across Northern Ireland since 1995.  We run workshops, programmes, projects and a social enterprise that combine traditional and digital art forms in creative ways that make a difference.  

We work mainly with people aged 4 – 25 as well as we are doing some work that brings older and younger people together. You’ll find us at schools, community groups, and public events and on our mobile arts studio the ArtCart somewhere near you!  

We are looking for a freelance finance officer to join our dynamic organisation. You will be exposed to a varied workload including accounts and financial management using accounting package SAGE 50 and payroll.

The role of the finance officer is critical to ensure that the organisation achieves its objectives as per organisational and funder requirements. He/she will lead, manage and maintain the finance process for all projects, ensure that a high level of accurate cost and reporting information is available. He/she will assist the management in the delivery of robust financial planning model to achieve the short, medium and long term objectives of the organisation and funders. Some key duties are outlined below.

Duties include:

  • Liaising with a broad staff, facilitators and client base on a regular basis

  • Managing a busy workload and ensuring deadlines are met

  • Sage updates on income and expenditure

  • Payroll management

  • Bank reconciliations

  • BACS payment preparation and processing

  • Budget management

  • Payment processing and sales invoicing

  • Credit/Debtors control

  • Financial management i.e. income and expenditure reporting, annual budgets preparation, annual audits, and reporting

  • Grant claims and management i.e. preparation for project claims, verification and vouching, management and reporting.

You will demonstrate;

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Bookkeeper

  • SAGE 50 experience is essential

  • Charity/third sector background is highly desirable

  • Strong time management skills

  • Experience working to deadlines

  • High level of Excel skills
