Lockdown
Dance
Project

Part of WheelWorks iProgramme

Professional artist Dee has co-designed an innovative and engaging project using emerging technology to deliver an exciting Dance project to young people that live in areas of high social need — from low income families, single parent families and children who have experienced many different forms of trauma, driven by socio-economic factors.

Using Dance as a tool, Dee will help to keep the young people engaged in a fun, interactive dance project that will not only benefit their physical health, but also their mental health & wellbeing. The group we will work with already have a shared positive experience with Dance through previous projects and performances. We feel continuing this key connection and sense of unity will be really important for the young participants and more so in the current environment where maintaining social relationships has been more challenging as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Parents have also expressed how grateful they are for this new project and they feel that it will certainly support and improve the mental wellbeing of their children.  Having an activity such as learning a dance routine will help the young people to build confidence, provide a sense of togetherness and allow them to continue to socialise and engage through the Zoom online classes. At the end of the project they will have a dance routine to share with and inspire others.
